Illegal, unregistered and smuggled vehicles are feared to be opted in terror activities. PSCA and Punjab Police to embark on joint crackdown against the menace of illegal, non-custom paid (NCP) or smuggled vehicles – the luxurious ones in particular. These instructions were relayed by IGP Punjab Syed Kaleem Imam in a high-level meeting onsite Punjab Safe Cities Authority on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by top cops of Punjab Police in addition to AIG MD PSCA Malik Ali Amir, COO Akbar Nasir Khan, DIG CAO Kamran Khan and Operations Commander IC3. The IGP sanctioned an indiscriminate crackdown against these off-grid vehicles and categorically asked CCPO, DIG Operations and all DPOs across the province to expedite action. All such vehicles and their owners are to be rigorously reported in writing to Headquarters once captured, he added.
Following staunch directive from the apex cop – PSCA has already started scouring all CCTV covered terrains for target vehicles. So far 4 vehicles have been impounded for further investigations against the charges of having no or improper documentation as well as using suspicious or phony number plates. The vehicles quarantined in this regard in various Police Stations are the luxury variants of brands such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi. Many others were fined on spot during the crackdown.
PSCA encourages citizens to report sighting of illegal, smuggled or NCP vehicles, in addition to, those using fake number plates at Police Helpline15 immediately.
